School and Group Day Visits
Are you a school local to Sayers Croft Field Centre?
Whether you want hands on fieldwork to complement your science, geography, PE or environmental education curriculum or a teambuilding, group bonding or confidence building session, Sayers Croft Trust can help.
Here are some ideas but this is not an exhaustive list. You are advised to contact the Community Education Officer to discuss your requirements.
Primary
- Minibeasts - Hunt for minibeasts under logs, in our large shallow ponds, or using sweep nets in the meadows in summer. Themed games link to habitats, adaptation, movement and camouflage.
- Habitats - Study the similarities and differences between various habitats including still and moving water, woods and meadows. Look at the adaptations and food chains of the inhabitants.
- Plants and growing - Look at plants from tiny to huge. Play games linked to what plants
need to grow, learn about growth from seed to flower.
- Sensory activities/art - Take an earthwalk around the woods and meadows with sensory activities on the way. Use clay and natural materials to create beautiful art in the outdoors.
- World War II History - Learn about what it was like to be an evacuee in the Second World War. Go in a bomb shelter, try on a gas mask.
- Team building and problem solving - Simple teamwork challenges such as hoop the group, building a shelter and maze games.
Secondary
- Biology and Environmental Science - Develop investigative skills by designing, carrying out and evaluating ecological investigations such as habitat comparisons, trampling surveys and population surveys.
- Geography -Fieldwork activities investigating river processes using a local stream, land use comparisons, orienteering and contrasting locality studies.
- Team building and problem solving - Team challenges and co-operative adventurous activities such as raft building, high ropes course and search and rescue.
- Outdoor and Adventurous activities- Climbing, ropes courses, zip wire, abseiling, archery, raft building, orienteering and shelter building. Most suitable for small groups.
